Silat Near Me: Practical Self-Defense, Cultural &Tradition

MAPHILINDO SILAT: THE ART OF FLOWING DEFENSE
Looking for Maphilindo Silat training near you? At Warrior Combat Arts Academy, students explore a dynamic Southeast Asian martial art that brings together influences from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
Developed by Guro Dan Inosanto, Maphilindo Silat reflects decades of study across Southeast Asian fighting traditions. Its training emphasizes fluid movement, adaptability, striking, off-balancing, takedowns, close-range tactics, and practical self-defense.
Rather than relying on strength alone, students learn to recognize movement, angles, balance, timing, and leverage — developing responses that can adapt as an encounter changes.
What You’ll Train
Indonesian Silat Takedowns & Throws
Learn methods of off-balancing, controlling, sweeping, and throwing while developing the ability to move smoothly between striking and grappling ranges.
Filipino Panantukan (Boxing)
Explore close-range boxing methods incorporating punches, elbows, defensive movement, limb control, and hand trapping.
Practical Southeast Asian Self-Defense
Develop adaptable defensive skills built around positioning, timing, leverage, awareness, and efficient movement.
More Than a Collection of Techniques
Maphilindo Silat training can include empty-hand striking, defensive movement, takedowns, weapon-related training, and methods for transitioning between ranges. Just as importantly, students develop coordination, composure, awareness, and the ability to remain functional under pressure.
The goal isn't to memorize an endless catalog of techniques. It's to understand principles of movement that can be applied when circumstances change.
A Living Martial Arts Legacy
Maphilindo Silat is closely associated with Guro Dan Inosanto, whose lifelong study helped introduce generations of martial artists to fighting traditions from throughout Southeast Asia.
At Warrior Combat Arts Academy, that lineage is carried forward through Guro Adrian Tandez, with training designed to preserve the art's heritage while making its principles understandable and useful to today's students.
